What to Know About Liposuction

If you’re concerned about fat pockets that don’t seem to respond to a regular diet and exercise program, you may be considering body contouring procedures like liposuction. Liposuction is the gold standard of body shaping, and many patients turn to it to get rid of unwanted fat bulges.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction involves removing fat from the body using a skinny tube known as a cannula. To perform the liposuction procedure, we begin by making tiny incisions into your skin in the areas you’ve identified for fat removal. Once we insert the cannula, a vacuum suctions out the fat, and the incisions are closed.

We can perform liposuction in just about any area of the body, including:

  • Abdominal region
  • Upper arms
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Love handles
  • Back
  • Area around the knees
  • Calves and ankles

While non-surgical body contouring options are available, their results aren’t nearly as dramatic as what liposuction offers. In addition, most patients need multiple sessions to see any difference in the targeted area.

What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?

Liposuction is a tried-and-true procedure that removes unwanted fat in a single treatment. Here are 6 advantages of liposuction:

  1. Get the Results You Want

If you’re serious about body resculpting, you don’t want to waste your time with procedures that don’t provide results. Liposuction is a one-time procedure that doesn’t require multiple trips to the doctor’s office. You can select the areas for fat removal, and we will work with you to design a treatment plan that works.

Results from liposuction are often dramatic. Depending on your starting size and the amount of fat in the area, it’s possible to reduce the circumference of the treated area by several inches using liposuction surgery.

  1. Target Multiple Areas at Once

Oftentimes, people have several body areas they want to tighten through liposuction. Whether you’re looking to thin out your thighs or upper arms (or both), performing liposuction in multiple locations during the same liposuction surgery treatment is possible.

People sometimes prefer to redistribute the extracted fat to other body areas for even better results. For example, some women choose to enhance the size of their hips to get an hourglass shape, while others use the fat to fill in areas of the face that show loss of volume. Liposuction is fully customizable to fit your needs.

  1. Fit Better in Your Clothes

Sometimes, clothing just doesn’t fit right. This can be from fat bulges that make the sleeves of a shirt too tight or a muffin top that results in skin overhang on a pair of jeans.

By undergoing a liposuction procedure, you’ll find that you fit much better into clothes that were tight in certain areas. Since you’ll eliminate the unwanted fat pockets, your clothes will hang much better over your body.

  1. Permanent Results

The results from liposuction are permanent. Once we remove the fat cells from your body, they’re gone. You won’t need to worry about fat pockets reappearing in the same areas as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle with nutritious meals and regular exercise.

  1. Jumpstart Your Healthy Habits

Sometimes, seeing the significant changes from a liposuction surgery is enough to encourage people to pay more attention to their health. Aside from adopting a diet and exercise program, they may also seek to maximize their skincare efforts and dial down unhealthy habits like alcohol use and smoking.

If liposuction is the boost you need to get serious about your health, we’re all for it!

  1. Top Off Your Body Contouring Efforts

Sometimes, people spend hours at the gym and watching what they eat but can’t seem to shake off unwanted fat in certain areas. Fat in the abdominal area, upper arms, and thighs can be particularly hard to eliminate, no matter how hard you try.

Undergoing liposuction is an excellent option for removing the remaining fat in unwanted areas, allowing you to enjoy the body shape you’ve worked so hard to get.

What Should I Expect During a Liposuction Procedure?

Before undergoing liposuction, you’ll meet with us to discuss your treatment goals. We’ll ask you for your complete medical history and a list of medications you’re taking and inquire about your health habits. We’ll also examine your body in the areas where you want the fat removed.

We’ll schedule you for the procedure if we determine that you’re a good candidate for liposuction surgery. Before the treatment, you should make sure that you carefully follow our instructions for the best results.

On the day of your liposuction surgery, we’ll begin by administering anesthesia. Next, we’ll make tiny incisions in the targeted areas and insert the cannula. A solution containing lidocaine and epinephrine will be introduced into the bloodstream, allowing the fat in the area to harden.

Next, we will attach the vacuum to the cannula and gently remove the desired amount of fat from the area. Following the session, we’ll stitch up your incisions and move you to a recovery room. Once the effects of the anesthesia have worn off, you can return home for further recuperation.

It’s important to follow our aftercare instructions and look after your body appropriately after the surgery. We’re always available to answer any questions you have after your procedure.
