Semi-Permanent Makeup Q & A

What is semi-permanent makeup?

Semi-permanent makeup consists of a temporary cosmetic tattoo. Your provider at The Image Center implants pigments under your skin to enhance the shape of your eyes, lips, and eyebrows.

Your semi-permanent makeup gradually fades, lasting several months to two years. The longevity of your treatment depends on the pigments used and how quickly your skin absorbs the pigment.

What cosmetic enhancements are made with semi-permanent makeup?

The team at The Image Center often applies semi-permanent makeup to enhance:

Eyebrows

You can choose semi-permanent makeup to shape and define your eyebrows and to fill in sparse areas. The experienced technicians at The Image Center apply pigment in a way that resembles the appearance of individual eyebrow hairs.

Eyes

Eyeliner is one of the most popular uses of semi-permanent makeup. Depending on the color and width of the pigments applied, your eyeliner can be as natural or dramatic as you’d like.

Lips

You can define your lips, eliminate the appearance of thin lips, and balanced crooked lips with a semi-permanent lip liner. You may also choose to have color applied over your lips, whether you want a neutral shade or a favorite color. This gives you permanent color at all times, yet you can still apply a lipstick or gloss to enhance the tattooed color.

In some cases, semi-permanent makeup is applied to cover medical problems. For example, vitiligo is a condition that causes loss of pigment in patches of skin. Some patients can fill in those patches to restore their natural skin color using semi-permanent makeup.

What should I expect when semi-permanent makeup is applied?

Prior to receiving your semi-permanent makeup, you’ll have an in-depth consultation to talk about your goals and expectations. You’ll also complete a medical history to be sure you don’t have any health conditions that may interfere with getting a tattoo.

Your provider at The Image Center applies a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure. The area being tattooed is marked with a cosmetic pencil, then the pigments are placed under your skin using a fine needle attached to a handheld device.

Your procedure takes 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the area being treated. Then you’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to fine tune the results.
