Dermal Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Over the years, everyone goes through the same age-related changes. The cushioning layer of fat just beneath your skin diminishes or falls and accumulates in unattractive areas due to the effect of gravity.

In your younger years, your skin produces substances such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin, which keep your skin hydrated, strong, and resilient. But as you get older, production of these vital substances falls, causing dry, loose, and fragile skin.

All these changes work together to produce wrinkles that the experts at The Image Center can treat with dermal fillers. These injectable fillers contain ingredients that diminish wrinkles by plumping them up and promoting collagen production.

What types of hyaluronic acid fillers are available?

The team at The Image Center offers a wide range of dermal fillers whose primary ingredient is hyaluronic acid, including:

Juvéderm

Juvéderm is a family of fillers that all contain hyaluronic acid in a gel-like base, but each one is formulated to target a specific cosmetic problem. Juvéderm Voluma® is a thicker gel made to lift cheeks and boost facial volume. The other Juvéderm fillers correct moderate-to-severe wrinkles around your mouth and nose, plump up your lips, and soften the fine lines around your lips.

Restylane®

Restylane also includes a line of fillers with hyaluronic acid. Each product is formulated with differently sized particles that create the amount of correction needed to target various cosmetic concerns. The Restylane products treat the same cosmetic problems as Juvéderm.

Belotero®

Belotero treats vertical lines above your upper lip and smooths away mild-to-moderate wrinkles around your mouth. However, Belotero integrates into your existing skin rather than rebuilding volume.

What other types of dermal fillers might I receive?

The team at The Image Center offers several dermal fillers that work differently from the hyaluronic acid fillers, such as:

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra contains tiny particles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is a biocompatible substance that stimulates collagen production. As PLLA is gradually absorbed into your body, collagen is left behind to maintain the results. Your aesthetician at The Image Center may recommend Sculptra to treat moderate-to-deep facial wrinkles and restore facial volume.

Radiesse® (+)

Radiesse (+) is similar to Sculptra because it immediately restores volume, then triggers collagen production. However, this type of Radiesse contains microspheres of calcium, as well as lidocaine to relieve pain. Like other dermal fillers, this product may restore volume and treat smile lines and marionette lines.
